Two men were killed in a Texas pedestrian accident on the evening of April 27 as they were walking their dog along Seawall Boulevard in Galveston. Authorities believe that alcohol and intoxicated driving were factors in the fatal crash.
According to the Houston Chronicle, 27-year-old Matthew Shelton of Galveston was driving on Seawall Boulevard at around 6:15 p.m. on Friday when he veered off of the roadway and into two pedestrians and their dog.
Galeston Police said that 42-year-old Seven Louis Hunt of Galveston and Joseph Owen of Galveston were both killed in the accident. Their dog also died of injuries it sustained in the pedestrian collision.
Shelton was rushed to the University of Texas Medical Branch where he remains in stable condition. According to Lt. Michael Gray of the Galveston Police Department, he has been charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and a Texas judge has set his bond at $100,000. It is not yet clear whether Shelton has a history of drunk driving charges or a criminal record. Currently, the man’s blood alcohol level and other evidence of intoxicated driving have not been released.
The passenger in Shelton’s car was also seriously injured in the car-pedestrian collision. The passenger was also taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch and is also currently listed in stable condition.
