Oak Lawn Man Struck and Killed by Hit-And-Run Driver

An Oak Lawn man is in critical condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital this week after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Cedar Springs Road on Thursday night.

55-year-old Wayne Earl Priest was walking in an unlit crosswalk at the intersection of Reagan Street at nine in the evening when he was hit by a passing car. A witness who saw the accident told police that the man was walking about two feet outside of the crosswalk when he was hit by a maroon four-door vehicle that had just pulled out of a private driveway. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render medical aid or call for help.
The Dallas Police Department’s Traffic Division is asking anyone who has information or saw the accident to call the Vehicle Crimes Unit is 214-670-5817.
This Oak Lawn pedestrian accident spotlights both the dangers of walking at night and the serious consequences of not stopping your car after striking a pedestrian. It is important to remember that crosswalks – especially unlit crosswalks – can be hazardous at night. And always remember that not stopping to render aid after a traffic accident is illegal.
