Two San Antonio Children Killed After Man Falls Asleep At The Wheel

Eight children and two adults were involved in a one-vehicle car accident in Port Aransas, Texas, this week after the driver of the van allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. Two children died in the tragic wreck while two others remain in serious condition. Two other children and one adult passenger were also injured.
According to Port Aransas Police, a woman, her boyfriend, her three children, and several cousins and friends, drove from San Antonio to Corpus Christi to visit the beach and shop. On their way home, the driver of the sports utility vehicle became fatigued and fell asleep while driving. The SUV left the road and flipped several times. The children, who ranged in age from two years to 14 years, were not wearing seat belts and on flattened seat at the time of the accident. The driver was the only person not to incur injuries in the crash, which took place on Texas 361 on Friday afternoon.
Two children, a two-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, died in the accident. The boy was ejected from the vehicle and the SUV landed on top of him, while the girl died of her injuries at Corpus Christi Medical Center-Bay Area.
This tragic accident is an important reminder about accident prevent – both when it comes to properly restraining children and when it comes to driving while fatigued.
