Texas Police say that 38-year-old Jose Chavez was driving while intoxicated when he entered the northbound lanes of Stemmons freeway going south on Friday morning, September 10.
Just before three in the morning, Chavez slammed into an oncoming car head-on near Market Center Boulevard, sending a 26-year-old woman to Parkland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Chavez, who witnesses say was driving approximately 70 miles an hour, was also injured and taken to the same hospital for treatment. He was then taken to the Dallas County Jail for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
This wrong way driving incident shared much in common with most – the driver was behind the wheel after drinking and driving late at night. He also seemed to have no idea he was driving the wrong way on the freeway until after the accident occurred.
