A family has filed a Texas medical malpractice lawsuit in Jefferson County following the death of their wife and mother. According to the Southeast Texas record, the family believes that 57-year-old Janell Jones was released from intensive care too soon, resulting in a heart attack that led to her death.
Henry Jones, Leonard Jones and Lisa Brown filed their TX medical malpractice complaint with Jefferson County District Court against The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Iasis Healthcare Corp. and Dr. Nabeel Abdullah.
According to court records, Jones went to the hospital in 2008 after feeling chest pains, pressure, and fainting – signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest. She was seen by Dr. Abdullah and released after receiving appropriate treatment for her disease. However, she returned days later complaining of the same pains and pressure. At that time, the hospital inserted a stent, discovered further blockages, and performed a cardiac catheterization.
After the medical procedure, Jones continued to complain of chest pain and produced an abnormal EKG that showed her heart was in crisis. However, the hospital moved her from the ICU and then allowed her to go home. She died of a heart attack less than a week later – she drove herself to the emergency room and it took medical staff 20 minutes just to transfer her from the car to the ER.
The Texas medical malpractice lawsuit states that Jones would have had a significantly higher chance of survival if she had been in the hospital at the time of her heart attack.
