A 14-year-old boy was killed in a Texas pedestrian accident while skateboarding in College Station this week. The accident occurred when a Texas Department of Public Safety cruiser struck the teen while he was crossing the road at just around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
According to the Associated Press, the boy - identified as Mark Harding Jr. - was crossing Rudder Freeway's southbound service road in south College Station on a skateboard when he was struck by Trooper Justin Stohler, an on-duty DPS officer.
Harding suffered a traumatic head injury in the crash. He was rushed by ambulance to College Station Medical Center where he later died. Another boy - who was also on a skateboard and crossing the street at the time of the accident - was not injured; however, he did not attend school the next day.
The service road was closed for nearly six hours after the accident took place.
It is not known if either boy was wearing a helmet or what caused the fatal Texas traffic accident to take place.
Grief Counselors were on hand at College Station Middle School where Harding attended classes. The second teen attends A&M Consolidated High School.
This tragic loss of life is a reminder to teens and parents across Texas to be aware of skateboarding safety and to follow the rules of the road no matter what type of vehicle you are operating.
The Texas pedestrian injury lawyers at Rasansky Law Firm offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mark Harding Jr.
