Bellaire Learning Center Daycare Worker Jailed for Abuse

BOSSIER CITY, LA (01/14/2015) — 25-year-old Amanda Marie Swanner has been arrested by Bossier City police on child cruelty charges after an incident at the Bellaire Learning Center daycare facility on January 8th, 2015.

Daycare Abuse Arrest
Amanda Marie Swanner, 25

According to reports, back on January 8th of 2015 Amanda Marie Swanner (of Shreveport) allegedly pulled a sleeping mat out from under a 5-year-old boy with enough force to "cause a bruise and burn mark" on the child's neck.
The child was allegedly lying down at the time and had placed the mat's elastic straps around his neck and hands. When the mat was pulled away by Ms. Swanner, the straps pulled across the boy's throat with considerable force.
The parents of the injured five year old boy reported the incident to police on January 8th. After police investigated, Swanner was booked into the Bossier City Jail on Thursday. She was charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile, and her bond was set at $5,000. She has since been transferred to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility.

In 2013, two other daycare workers at the Bellaire Baptist Church's Learning Center were also charged with cruelty to juveniles after video surfaced showing one daycare employee hurling a toy at a child and striking him in the face with enough force to cause a bruise.
Further review of video surveillance from the daycare led to the arrest of a second daycare employee. According to police, the video showed the women yanking children around, spanking them excessively, and being too rough with the children.
