Nancy Sterling-Dalton Killed in Buda TX DWI Car Accident

BUDA, TX (9/29/2014) — A two-vehicle car accident Monday night has claimed the life of 60-year-old Nancy Sterling-Dalton. Police have arrested the other driver on charges of intoxication manslaughter.

UPDATE 05/19/2017: Last week, a Hays County jury sentenced Jason Floyd Tarr to a 20-year prison term and levied a $10,000 fine after being found guilty of murder and intoxication manslaughter. Tarr faced 5-99 years or life in prison for his role in the 2014 drunk driving accident which killed 60-year-old Nancy Sterling-Dalton.

The accident occurred in northern Hayes County at around 8:00 p.m. Monday night on FM 1626 just south of Buda, Texas. For those familiar with the area, the wreck occurred near the Cimarron Park neighborhood, which is close to where Lewis Lane and Eagle Nest meet FM 1626.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 60-year-old Nancy Sterling-Dalton, of Austin, was traveling northbound on Farm to Market 1626 in her 2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible when a southbound 2009 Ford F150 driven by 37-year-old Jason Floyd Tarr, of Buda, crossed into the oncoming lane and struck Sterling-Dalton’s car head-on. Witnesses apparently observed Tarr’s Ford F150 pickup truck “weaving into the shoulder and then crossing back across the center stripe.” Nancy Sterling-Dalton was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to reports, road conditions were dry and the weather was clear. The speed limit is 50 mph, and while this section of FM 1626 has been under construction, there is an open lane in either direction.
Jason Tarr, a Buda realtor who was voted “Hays County Best Real Estate Broker in 2008,” sustained minor injuries in the crash. He was taken to Seton Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin, treated, and released. Tarr was then placed under arrest for intoxication manslaughter and booked into the Hays County Jail. Records show that he is now free on a $150,000 bond.
 
Other outlets are reporting that this is at least Tarr’s second arrest for driving while intoxicated. KVUE reported finding at least four prior DWI arrests for Jason Tarr. Of course, it is uncertain how many of those may have ended in a conviction.
While the accident is under investigation, our thoughts are with the family of Nancy Sterling-Dalton. The sudden loss of a family member is one of the toughest things to go through, and we only hope that adequate justice is served.
